Nerang State High School is focussed on developing each child’s personal strengths through the use of technology, innovative teaching, outstanding curriculum, extra-curricular opportunities and real-life community projects to ensure their full potential is harnessed and nurtured to meet their individual needs and goals.
The school seeks to build character in all students by offering a diverse range of programs, from the COMETSAcademic Excellence program to the Quality Arts Program in performing arts and the Culinary Enrichment Program, and from University pathways to vocational education programs, including school based traineeships and apprenticeships.

Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: The Junior Secondary School offers a wide range of support and pathways for students. These include The Comets Academic Signature Programs and The Quality Arts Signature Program.
Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: Senior Secondary students have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, explore future pathways and excel in the educational fields they have chosen. Leadership skills are developed through participation in the Gold Coast Junior Council, the Beacon Program, Student Council and the School Leadership team. Students are encouraged to nominate for positions and are mentored by year Co-ordinators and teaching staff.
Extracurricular activities: School Musical, Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, Debating, Public Speaking, and performances from the Concert and Stage Bands.
Welfare and personal development: Chaplain, Guidance, Indigenous support, The Nerang Reading Project (NRP), Youth health nurse, Youth support co-ordinator.
