Murgon State High School is located in the Education Region of Darling Downs South West. It services the communities of Murgon, Wondai, Cherbourg, Goomeri and Proston. Murgon State High School opened in 1945 and is a co-educational school that caters for students in Secondary Schooling (Years 7 – 12) including Special Education.
The school welcomes students from a complex mix of backgrounds including farming, business, rural, township and Indigenous communities. The School has a total enrolment of 360 students. Approximately 40% of students are Indigenous and more than 50% of students travel to school by bus from the rural areas surrounding Murgon.
The main campus is on an attractively landscaped site including a 42-hectare farm. Every student is challenged to find a satisfying pathway to life-long learning and productive employment. Staff foster the belief in the worth of effort and the value of striving towards personal and educational goals for our students. The school is committed to positive behaviours through its rules of Participation, Respect, Responsibility and Safe and Legal. The school has a well-established system of School Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) and a rewards program that acknowledges students achievements through the term.
