The school is concerned with each student’s academic, social and cultural development and sees itself as a place of scholarship, where students attain high standards in all areas. Students are encouraged to adhere to the school motto, “Strive for excellence”.
Curriculum: Students commence Year 7 in a flexible learning environment that enables staff to personalise the learning for each student. A school-wide focus on literacy and numeracy skills prepares students well for senior school. In 2011, the school introduced an ACE program for gifted Year 7 students who will experience an accelerated curriculum to develop their special abilities. Year 10 students are able to select VCE units so that they can get a head start. Year 10 and VCE students are also able to select from a range of VET courses, as well as the traditional VCE subjects. The school has an extensive computer network and internet connection to all main building classrooms.
Sport: The sport program includes a range of team sports played against other schools, plus house sports in swimming, athletics and cross-country. The school is very successful at state level.
Extra-curricular activities: The school has a sister-school relationship with Osaka-Seiryo High School in Japan. Students may participate in the annual student exchange program. Music tuition is available and the school has a band that performs at many functions throughout the year. Study camps are held for Year 12 students. Other co-curricular activities include the popular chess and robotics clubs.
Student welfare programs: A whole-school approach to discipline, anti-bullying programs and peer support programs ensure that students work in a safe and caring environment. A student senate assists with student-school communication and students sit on the college council. Uniform is compulsory.
