The CGGS Year 9 Commerce curriculum is designed to empower students with critical skills such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, innovation, and ethical decision-making. These skills are invaluable in today’s dynamic environment and have propelled our students to notable success. A testament to the effectiveness of our curriculum is the remarkable achievement of our students in the Plan Your Own Enterprise (PYOE) Competition, an esteemed event organised by Business Educators Australasia and the Victorian Commercial Teachers Association. This victory isn’t just a win; it’s a consecutive triumph, marking the second year CGGS has dominated the state finals, thereby reinforcing our position as Victoria’s leading representative in the national arena.
The PYOE Competition is an excellent opportunity for young entrepreneurs to showcase their creativity and critical thinking through developing comprehensive business plans. Amongst stiff competition and as some of the youngest contenders, Year 9 students Amalia P, Phoebe P, and Abbey M stood out with their innovative concept, “Tart in a Cart,” a food truck venture that captured the judges’ attention and secured their victory. Additionally, Christina W, Alyce L, and Amber C, also from Year 9, demonstrated exceptional creativity and business acumen with their venture, “Durabottle,” which was recognised as one of the Top 5 finalists.
These accomplishments underscore the importance of the skills taught in our Commerce curriculum and highlight the entrepreneurial spirit and talent within our student body. Through initiatives like the PYOE Competition, CGGS students not only apply what they have learned in a real-world context but also set a benchmark of excellence and innovation for others to follow.
