Executive Principal, Dr Daniel Pampuch, sheds light on the new facilities at Hillcrest Christian School
Science Centre Redevelopment Over the Christmas holidays, Hillcrest Christian College refurbished and refitted two of its existing Senior School Science labs. The rooms were totally dismantled and redesigned by the Science faculty staff to ensure they were modern and suitable for 21st-century learning. All laboratory benches and preparation areas were replaced. Updated technology was fitted to the rooms. All areas were also freshly painted and carpeted. Finally, both rooms were fitted with air-conditioners to regulate temperature. Once the new Senior School developments are completed, the College’s Home Economics room will then be converted into a fifth science laboratory with similar remodeling and fit out.
Senior School Development Hillcrest is also currently undertaking a new Senior School development (pictured). The initiative includes the development of two new Food Technology rooms, theory and servery areas. The build also includes the development of new Senior School Administration and support offices. The build will free up the current VCE Centre for a large Year 12 common room and study space, careers and guidance office, as well as additional teaching spaces. The aim is to have the full build complete by the June school holidays to allow staff time to set up the centres before school starts back in Term 3.
Air-conditioners in the Senior School Over the past nine years, Hillcrest has invested significant funds into the installation of air-conditioning to all newly constructed buildings. The College has also retro-fitted all the existing classrooms in the Junior and Middle Schools with air-conditioning. All specialist centres including the Discovery Centre, Theatre and Arts Centre are now air-conditioned. The College’s attention has finally turned to completing the final roll out in the existing Senior School classrooms. As mentioned above, two Science laboratories were air-conditioned over the Christmas break, with the third to be completed later in the year. Five more rooms have been air-conditioned in the Senior School including the two new Food Technology rooms. A total of 10 additional air-conditioned rooms in the Senior School will come on line this year. This will make all Hillcrest’s rooms climate controlled with reverse cycle air-conditioners, fans and heaters.
