Dysart State High School is a school committed to providing access to a quality education for young people in the Central Highland. It provides a dynamic approach to education with the focus on maximising opportunities for students to explore “what’s possible” and provide them with the skills to reach their goals.
The school has developed a strong, supportive relationship with students, parents and the wider Dysart community and values the contributions these groups make to the school. The P&C is extremely active. Dysart State High School has a vibrant and rich partnership with the mining industry and BMA particularly, which provides additional experiences and opportunities for students to support their career aspirations.
Electives Years 7 to 10: Core studies – English, Science, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education (HPE). Each of the following subjects will be studied for a semester – History, Geography, The Arts, ICT (computers), Home Economics (Cooking and Sewing), Information Technology and Design (Wood and Metal Work).
Electives Years 11 and 12: Core curriculum – English: English or English communication, Mathematics: Maths A or Pre-Vocational Maths, Certificate II in workplace practises. Elective subjects – Biology, Chemistry, Business Communication & Technology (BCT), Legal Studies, The Arts, Certificate I and II in MATE resource infrastructure operations – (mining), Certificate II in community recreation (Physical Education), Certificate II in community services (Child care), Certificate II in Hospitality, Certificate II in IDMT, Certificate I in Construction, Certificate II in Engineering (mining focus).
Sport: Interschool sport – rugby League and netball. Central Highlands sporting trials – tennis, hockey, Rugby League and Union, netball, soccer, squash, swimming, and athletics.
Extracurricular activities: Chess club, Community Anzac commemorations, Arts expo, Bells Shakespeare performances, Variety of fundraising events – Bullying No Way, Greatest Morning Tea, Red Nose, canteen, Pink Ribbon Day, etc., Sound and lighting crew.
Welfare and personal development: Behaviour Management.
