Catholic Ladies’ College was founded at East Melbourne in 1902 by the Sisters of Charity and moved in 1971 to its present eight-hectare site at Eltham. It seeks to provide an education conducive to the development of the whole person, in the context of the Catholic faith.
Facilities: Extensive grounds with gymnasium and modern multi-purpose sports facilities, spacious, well-equipped resource centre; wireless internet access throughout the college; specialist Key Learning Areas for art, drama, music and food technology; four science laboratories and computer rooms.
Curriculum: The curriculum caters for a wide range of abilities and differences in learning styles. All Key Learning Areas are covered with thinking skills, co-operative group work and information and communication technologies embedded in the programs. An inter-disciplinary studies program in Year 7 assists students in their transition to secondary school. In Year 8, there is an inter-disciplinary inquiry-based city experience project. The Year 9 curriculum is specifically designed to cater for the needs and interests of this group, focusing on student-centred authentic tasks. In Year 10, the focus is on preparing students for their post-compulsory pathway, be it VCE or VCAL. In Years 11 and 12, VCE subjects offered include Mathematics, Sciences, Business Management, Accounting, Legal Studies, Economics, Physical Education, Literature, History, Geography, Indonesian, German, Art, Drama, Music, Graphics and Media Studies. VET subjects include Business Administration, Information Technology and Multimedia. The VCAL is also offered.
Sport: Physical Education is a key component of the curriculum and participation in a wide range of sports is encouraged. The school engages in inter-school competition in swimming, athletics, netball, basketball and equestrian events. A sequential outdoor education program is an integral part of the curriculum in Years 7 to 9.
Extra-curricular activities: There are many extra-curricular activities on offer at the college ranging from sporting teams to debating and the performing arts.
Student wellbeing: Catholic Ladies’ College uses a whole school approach to student wellbeing to achieve best possible learning experiences and outcomes for students. The whole school approach involves a thoughtful and co-ordinated approach to student wellbeing across all year levels. It is reflective of its practice and seeks to encourage student voice. It aims to promote student wellbeing practices and programs that are inclusive, empowering, respect the developmental stages of students and to provide a breadth of cross-curricular and co-curricular activities.
