Beaudesert State High School opened in 1963 and is currently home to some 1450 students. Electives Years 7 to 10: Years 7 and 8 study a core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Health & Physical Education. These years can then sample a specialist curriculum which includes Visual & Performing Arts (Art, Media & Drama), Agricultural Science, Food Technology, and Design & Technology, or undertake Languages Other Than English (LOTE) or an intensive literacy program.
Year 9 students complete a core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, History and Health & Physical Education then undertake three elective subjects from Dance, Drama, Media, Visual Art, Food Studies, Graphics Shop A, Graphics Shop B, Industrial Technology & Design, Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Science, Animal Husbandry, Business Studies, Information & Communication Technology, or Japanese.
Year 10 students complete a core of English, Mathematics, Science, and Health & Physical Education then choose three elective subjects from the options available in Year 9 as well as Geography, History and Physical Education.
Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: The senior school offers 26 Authority subjects including English, Japanese, Ancient History, Modern History, Geography, Legal Studies, Mathematics A, Mathematics B, Mathematics C, Chemistry, Physics, Biological Science, Agricultural Science, Science 2, Accounting, Business Communication & Technology, Information Processing & Technology, Physical Education, Visual Art, Dance, Film & Television, Music, Drama, Technology Studies, and Graphics. In addition, the school offers an extensive range of Vocational Education Subjects including English Communication, Prevocational Mathematics, Hospitality Practices, Early Childhood, Business and Information Technology, Industrial Skills (Construction, Engineering, and Furnishing), Automotive Mechanics, Agricultural & Horticultural Skills, Welding, Sports Coaching, Fitness, and Visual Art Studies. Sport: Beaudesert State High School is proud of its sporting traditions and success. The sports excellence program allows students to represent the school, district, South Coast, Queensland and Australia. Students receive quality coaching from our teachers and participate in selected competitions both in and out of school time. The school supports Athletics, Touch Football, Basketball, Netball, Rugby League, Cricket, Futsal and Triathlon.
Extracurricular activities: Instrumental Music – Students elect to attend weekly lessons in woodwind, brass, percussion or strings. They are then expected to participate in Concert Band or Stage Band. Performances at local events, competitions and official school occasions instil confidence and encourage improvement.
Debating – Beaudesert State High School has a long history of successful debating teams.
Japan Tour – Students who study Japanese have the opportunity every two years to travel to Japan to experience the language and culture of that country first-hand. Other extra- curricular activities include a restaurant trip and Japanese lunches.
Special features: In Years 8 and 9, the school offers learning support classes for students who have been identified with learning difficulties in English and Mathematics. These classes have a smaller number of students to provide a more personalised learning environment in the areas of literacy and numeracy. English Communication and Pre-Vocational Maths are offered in the senior years. These subjects are designed to assist students to continue to develop literacy and numeracy skills for TAFE and the workplace.
