THE HILLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Hills Grammar is a school that is truly independent, intentionally co-educational, proudly diverse and inclusive with no religious affiliation. It is a Pre K to Year 12 School located in Kenthurst, part of Sydney’s growing Hills District. With intentionally small class sizes and peer groups, Hills Grammarians receive personalised attention and individualised learning.

Facilities: Set on 18.4 hectares of magnificent bushland, facilities include: fully equipped multipurpose hall with gymnasium and weight training area; amphitheatre, performance centre, music complex, drama theatre and workshop spaces; state-of-the-art science and HSIE facilities; art rooms, studio and gallery; Centre for Innovation & Creativity, Senior Resources Study Centre and library; canteen; Tennis Centre which features two plexipave hardcourts and four synthetic grass courts; a fully lit Sports Precinct including an international-sized oval, and four multipurpose courts and a Sports Pavilion.

Electives Years 11 and 12: English (all levels), Mathematics (all levels), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Economics, Legal Studies, Ancient History, Modern History, Geography, History Extension, Music 1, Music 2, Music Extension, Visual Arts, Languages (French, Japanese, Latin — Continuers and Extension), Drama, PD/Health/PE, Information Processes and Technology, Design and Technology and Computer Applications / Visual Design.

Sport: Soccer, cricket, tennis, touch football, volleyball, swimming, netball, basketball, taekwondo, athletics, cross-country, surf life-saving, rugby, fencing, weight training, boot camp. Students also train for a broad range of inter-school team competitions.

Co-curricular program: The co-curricular program is an integral part of the whole school curriculum. It provides wonderful opportunities for students to further develop their skills and interests across a broad range of activities including Sport; Creative, Spoken and Performing Arts; Music; Leadership and Service Learning; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Outdoor Education. These activities take place before school, during lunch and after school with further weekend commitments in some areas. These include martial arts, camps, photography, music, fencing, debating, drama, choirs, orchestra, string ensemble, band, service learning, musicals, rhythmic gymnastics, cake decorating, ski trip, sailing trip, creative thinking and problem solving, environment clubs and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. There are extra costs for some of these activities.

Wellbeing and personal development: The extensive student wellbeing program is well resourced and forward thinking. The team includes Head of Student Wellbeing K-6, Head of Student Wellbeing 7-12, Head of Year 12, Head of Futures and Enterprise, Heads of House, House tutors, consultant psychologists, a strong peer leadership system and a student leadership committee. Knowing that graduates may change careers many times, the school promotes critical thinking skills, encourages curiosity and instils a deep love of learning. These qualities, above others, will aid Hills Originals as they enter the world beyond the school gates.

Special features: From Year 7, an Academic Honours Program offers flexible pathways of study for students with high ability in one or more of the following areas: Humanities (an integrated program of English, History and Latin), Mathematics and Science and Geography. Academic enrichment and extension are strong features of these programs, which are designed to value and nurture intellectual curiosity and prepare students for outstanding achievement at Higher School Certificate levels. Academic and Strive for Excellence (Music, Performing Arts and All Rounder) Scholarships may be offered each year to students entering Year 7 and Year 11.
