Established in 1979, Blackwattle Bay campus occupies magnificent buildings on historic Blackwattle Bay.
Facilities: There is an excellent school auditorium, three computer labs, a spacious library with an independent learning centre equipped with computer technology, two multi-purpose courts, a gymnasium, and grassed playing areas. Recently completed $6.4 million capital works include a theatre/lecture hall, multimedia learning space, a modern university-style cafeteria, support unit for students with disabilities, and a commercial kitchen.
Electives Years 11 and 12: Blackwattle Bay Campus is centrally placed and links with six TAFE campuses and the campuses of UTS and Sydney University. It offers more than 65 academic and vocational courses, which give credit towards HSC, TAFE and university. 1-Unit Mind and Morality is a university-developed NSW Board-endorsed course, which gives six credit points equivalent to a one semester subject.
Sport: A wide range of sport and leisure activities is offered. The campus takes full advantage of its waterfront location. Students have full access to the Glebe Rowing Club boat shed and its facilities. Other water activities available include kayaking and dragon boat racing. Students also have access to Sydney Secondary College sporting teams.
Extracurricular activities: There are active clubs including chess, debating, bands, drama, and photography. Drama and musical presentations feature throughout the year. Dragon boating with the Pacific Dragons is also offered.
Welfare and personal development: The campus welfare program is well developed with a structure that allows maximum monitoring of all students. The SRC is extremely active and student school leaders are chosen from this group after leadership courses are undertaken. Work experience, work placement (VET) and careers guidance matters are addressed from a well-resourced career reference room. Year camps, extensive excursion programs, PD/Health/PE programs, and peer support are all endorsed by the welfare team.
Special features: The campus has a support unit for students with special needs. Free tutoring specially tailored to individual student needs is run by the Sydney University Students’ Union and is extremely popular among students.
