This high school was named after the famous botanist. It is a co-educational comprehensive community school, which focuses on academic achievement. Students participate in a broad curriculum with opportunities for vocational education.
Facilities: Large grounds with ovals, hockey field, tennis and basketball courts, cricket nets. There is an assembly hall and a well-stocked library.
Electives Years 9 to 10: Food Technology, Industrial Technology (Timber), Visual Arts, Drama, Commerce, Music, Graphics Technology, Information and Software Technology, Physical Activity and Sport and Elective History.
Electives Years 11 and 12: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ancient and Modern History, Business Studies, Legal Studies, Food Technology, Hospitality, Design and Technology, Drama, Visual Arts, Photography and Visual Design, Sport Leisure and Recreation.
Sport: Rugby league, soccer, cricket, netball, basketball, touch football. Recreational sports include tenpin bowling and tennis.
Extracurricular activities: Debating, drama, musical groups, student council, involvement in English, Mathematics and Science competitions.
Welfare and personal development: A supportive welfare system operates and Year 7 students are involved in a peer support program. Students are encouraged to develop strong values, goals and priorities and to relate to each other in a caring way. Work experience, SRC and living skills are also part of the school’s program. An ESL and literacy support program is in place.
Special features: Students can access Vocational Education Training courses at TAFE from Year 10 onwards.
