Built in 1967 this large co-educational high school is set in a pleasant, green environment and draws students from the surrounding north-west suburbs of Sydney.
Facilities: Four multi-purpose playing fields, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, a computer rich school including laptops and interactive whiteboards, dance/drama studio, music centre, design and technology rooms, photographic darkroom, multi-purpose centre incorporating an indoor basketball court and a modern library.
Electives: The school offers a comprehensive education with a broad curriculum choice. Senior students may choose from more than 40 subjects including all levels of Mathematics and English, Extension courses in History and Music, Dance, Drama, Japanese, German and the VET courses of Hospitality, Building and Construction, Business Services, Metals and Engineering, Information Technology and Entertainment. Junior students may select from 20 different elective subjects.
Sport: All traditional and a range of innovative sports are offered.
Extracurricular activities: Carlingford High’s music department is widely acclaimed in instrumental and choral music involving two stage bands, two concert bands, string ensemble and a choir. Other activities include debating, public speaking, state-wide competitions, dance and drama festivals, Schools Spectacular and ISCF.
Year 10 students participate in Australian Business Week.
Welfare and personal development: Well-established programs in peer support, work experience, pastoral care, career guidance and counselling services are all provided. A Student Representative Council operates. Uniform is compulsory. Extension classes have been established for Years 7 and 8 students. ESL students are well catered for and the school has a specialist teacher to assist students with learning difficulties. An active school council and P & C are in operation.
