Meriden’s Tildesley Tennis Triumph

Meriden’s Tennis squad has once again displayed their tenacity and skill on the courts, bringing home the Tildesley Shield for the thirteenth consecutive year.

The Tildesley Tournament brings together students from independent girls’ schools across Sydney, and stands out for being a closely fought tournament each year, displaying the best of good sportsmanship and positive attitudes from all players.

Meriden Principal, Dr Julie Greenhalgh, said, “Tildesley is a special event, and one the whole School community looks forward to each year. I was particularly proud this year. The courtesy and respect shown towards all other competitors were exemplary, and their performance on the courts was nothing short of magnificent”.

Tennis is a sport close to the heart of all at Meriden, and the Tennis coaching team is outstanding. Led by Coach Ross Anton, students begin their tennis instruction in Kindergarten, and a team of expert coaches guides the girls of all skill levels to achieve their potential as players.

At Tildesley this year, Meriden girls took out first place in the Singles Tournament and the top two places in the Doubles Tournament after a series of thrilling matches. Meriden has also taken out the top two positions in the Doubles matches for thirteen consecutive years.

Indiya McLeod, one of Meriden’s 2022 Tennis Captains, won the Singles Tournament with a convincing 8 – 4 victory. As a Year 12 student, 2022 was Indiya’s final Tildesley Tournament, after winning the 2020 Singles event and competing in the last three finals.

Sarah Mazaraki, Year 12, and Miranda Xu, Year 10, took out the Doubles Tournament, after finishing as runners up in 2020 and as semi-finalists in 2021.

Farah Zulfiqar, Year 11, and Nina Krecklenberg, Year 11, were the 2022 Doubles runners-up, in their first Tildesley Doubles finals event.

After thirteen years of victory at Tildesley, Meriden girls’ love of Tennis and dedication to their sport continues to shine.
