Whittlesea Secondary College is located in the semi-rural suburb of Whittlesea in Melbourne’s north. Set in 30 acres with exceptional modern facilities, WSC delivers exciting, diverse and innovative curriculum to meet our student’s needs. Our purpose is to empower students so that they can ‘take control’ of their learning and their lives. We work together to help young people find their voice and discover their passions. Facilities: Our values Attitude, Application and Achievement solidifies our goal of achieving a high level of educational success in all areas of the curriculum. Whittlesea Secondary College (Years 7-12), with 800 students, it prides itself on being a well-established centre with spacious surroundings and excellent facilities. The campus enjoys an open country-style atmosphere. An exceptional Performing Arts Academy includes an auditorium with seating for 200 people and music rooms. The college also has a large gymnasium with two full-size basketball courts, Year 12 students have their own private study room.
Curriculum: The College is always striving to improve student learning in literacy and numeracy at all levels and utilises the monitoring of student assessment to address individual needs. We actively promote students to be motivated and engaged, with curiosity and creativity encouraged, enhancing student results. Improved outcomes across the school are driven by innovative curriculum and inquiry-based student learning supported by extensive computing technologies. The development and use of the COMPASS School Management System is being used to link students, teachers and parents and act as a communication tool for all. Students in Years 7-12 are informed and maximise career opportunities through the career program in line with the Victorian Careers Curriculum Framework.
Year 7 students have a core curriculum upon entering the college. Years 8-10 have a vertical curriculum with enhanced student choice of program. A wide range of subjects is offered in Years 11 and 12 including VCE, VET and VCAL. The college has an experienced Careers Pathways and tertiary adviser with strong industry links.
Sport: Whittlesea Secondary College offers a wide range of sporting activities to all students. A vital inter-school sports program is fostered by competitive college house teams.
Extra-curricular activities: The college has broad cultural and artistic programs including an annual theatre production and an instrumental music program with jazz, brass, rock, percussion and concert bands. The extensive camps program offers a learning and self-development course that enhances the classroom. The college has well-developed networks between the school and local community groups.
Student welfare programs: The college encourages strong leadership, resilience and self-discipline, along with equal opportunity and a strong work ethic. The aim is to build positive relationships with students, their families and the community. The school uses the Berry Street Trauma informed practice alongside School Wide Positive Behaviour strategies to support student engagement. Student involvement is encouraged through a system of college and house captains, Student Representative Council and representation on the College Council. The college also has a well-developed student Wellbeing Team with counsellors, mental health practitioners, psychologists and youth workers who support programs such as mentoring support, leadership development programs, rock and water, canine comprehension and many more. A college chaplain has been appointed to support and assist students, families and the college community.
