St Anthony’s welcomes Christian students whose parents are looking for a school that aims to teach traditional Christian values within a modern school curriculum. The motto is “Educating for Life” and the aim is to give students the knowledge and skills to achieve their potential and to live a productive and rewarding life. The college runs its own fleet of buses and provides a door-to-door service in the south-eastern suburbs.
Facilities: In 2010 a new primary school and primary library were completed, enabling P–2 and Years 3–5 learning centres where students can proceed through each stage based on abilities and not just year level. This ensures students have the skills necessary to meet the next challenge, rather than age. A new Middle School catering for the “tween” generation in Years 5 to 8 brings the best of primary organisation and the challenge of secondary curriculum together. The emphasis on literacy and numeracy skills remains longer than in a traditional secondary school. Also the students are challenged in the unique way that “tweens” need to be challenged and not dominated by the needs of senior secondary school curriculum.
Curriculum: The curriculum follows the VELS guidelines and includes all traditional subjects such as Mathematics, English, Physical Education and Health, the Arts, Technology, Science, SOSE and Religious Studies and the LOTE is Arabic. An extensive range of VCE subjects is offered to Year 12 and classes will continue to be extremely small in the secondary school, providing the opportunity for students to have individual tutoring in Years 11 and 12. Religious education is an important aspect of St Anthony’s. All aspects of college life are conducted in a Christian atmosphere and the whole college regularly attends chapel.
Sport: The college is involved in many inter-school sporting activities so students have the opportunity to compete against other schools.
Student welfare programs: St Anthony’s welfare and discipline policy is firm but fair with the emphasis on students becoming responsible citizens ready to make a positive contribution to Australian society. The students are encouraged to become responsible for their own actions and to consider the consequences to these actions.
